The Blue Plate Oysterette is a cute and cozy little establishment by the ocean in the beautiful city of Santa Monica.
The Oysterette has cute and stylish decor inside and lots of comfy pillows at the tables as well as heat lamps to make your experience as comfortable as possible.
We started our meal with something a little bit crazy — vodka oyster shots!
The shooter was intense. The first thing I tasted was the vodka. Then, at the end, the only taste left in my mouth was a beautifully prepared oyster and its cocktail sauce. If you’re really hungry but also want a little drink, its an excellent option to tide you over while waiting for your food. I am definitely going to order this again!
Next up, we got grilled artichokes. It came with lemon and tartar sauce. Sometimes, artichokes can be tough or dry, but that is not the case here at Blue Plate Oysterette! The leaves were soft and buttery. In fact, they were so soft you could eat the leaf as a whole.
After finishing the artichoke, our waiter arrived with our order of a dozen oysters — six of the Kumiai from Gurerrero Negro Langoon, Mexico and six of the Phantom Creek from Baynes Sounds, BC, Canada. Both oysters were delicious, but I personally preferred the Kumiai because they were more briny, which is what I like. The phantom creek oysters were a bit more mild in flavor compared to the Kumiai, but contained a bit more meat. Both oysters were good but next time we would go with a full dozen of the Kumiai instead of half-and-half.
Next, we got to try the Shrimp Aguachile at the recommendation of our waiter. It contained serrano and poblano peppers along with cucumber, radish, and lime mixed with the shrimp to top on their house-made tortilla chips.
It reminded me of an incredible take on ceviche.
Last but not least, I want to talk about their sashimi.
I am at a loss of words to describe this dish because all I want to say DELICIOUS. While it was just a simple dish of raw salmon, albacore, and yellowtail and just a touch of olive oil, red onions, and capers — it was enough to make my mouth water.
The Blue Plate Oysterette was an all-around amazing experience. With delicious food, pleasant staff, nice atmosphere, and a beautiful location. I will definitely be coming back here anytime I am in Santa Monica and would rate it a 9.5/10.
I love the vodka oyster shots that looks awesome!!
They were INTENSE in terms of their flavor, but we kept order them!
Your description of the dishes sounds remarkable! I’ll put it at the top of my list to visit when I get there!
